The field of Probability and Statistics has made profound contributions to many diverse branches of science, engineering, medicine, law, finance, economics, etc. In today's rapidly- evolving information age, we have access to overwhelming quantities of data for the study of complex relationship and phenomena. This demands innovative statistical methodologies, and creates both opportunities and challenges for probabilists and statisticians.

The First HKUST International Forum on Probability and Statistics (2013), co-sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study, HKUST, the Center for Statistical Science, HKUST, and the Department of Statistics, CUHK, will be held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on 28 August 2013. This one-day forum brings together some of the most prominent researchers worldwide to share and discuss recent advancements in the field, to embrace the present and future challenges for the profession, and to provide opportunities for collaborative work.
